What You'll Study

Active Study's Engineering course for international students is a gateway to innovation and technological advancement. Embrace the opportunity to develop cutting-edge skills in a rapidly evolving field - from civil and mechanical to electrical and electronics engineering.

Engineering programs at the diploma and advanced diploma level cover applied mathematics, physics, computer-aided design (CAD), materials science, project management, and specialised units in your chosen engineering discipline - civil, mechanical, electrical, or electronics.

Practical laboratory sessions, industry projects, and work placements give you hands-on experience with the tools, software, and problem-solving approaches used by Australian engineering firms. Technical communication and professional ethics are woven through all units.

Programs lead to a Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Engineering - AQF Level 5/6 qualifications that serve as both a standalone career entry point and a bridge to a bachelor's degree through credit recognition at Australian universities.

Cost and duration of Engineering courses in Australia

Fees & Timeline

Cost, Duration & Intake Dates

Engineering programs at this level are delivered as a Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Engineering, sitting at AQF Levels 5 and 6. Indicative total tuition commonly ranges from around AUD 12,000 to AUD 20,000, reflecting the laboratory and CAD components involved. These figures are indicative only and vary by provider, engineering discipline, and city.

A Diploma of Engineering typically takes around one to one-and-a-half years of full-time study, while progressing to an Advanced Diploma generally extends the journey to roughly two years. Both are nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework and can serve as a bridge to a bachelor's degree through credit recognition at Australian universities. Most providers run several intakes a year, commonly in February, April or May, July, and October.

Because engineering covers distinct streams such as civil, mechanical, electrical, and electronics, fees and structures differ between providers. Active Study helps you choose the right discipline and provider, then confirms the exact current tuition and intake dates before you enrol.

Permanent residency pathway after a Engineering course in Australia

Study to PR

Your PR Pathway After This Course

Engineering is one of Australia's most consistently in-demand fields, which makes it a strong basis for a migration plan. After completing an eligible diploma or advanced diploma, and often after further study or experience, you may be able to apply for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) where you meet the requirements, using that time to build the technical experience that supports a skilled application.

The course entry notes that civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers are on both the MLTSSL and state occupation lists. Because of this national listing, eligible applicants may be able to pursue independent and nominated skilled visas such as the subclass 189, 190, and 491, subject to a positive skills assessment from the relevant engineering assessing authority, your points score, and the current occupation lists.

Note that many engineering occupations are assessed at degree level, so your diploma may be a stepping stone toward a bachelor's qualification before a skilled application. Points thresholds and assessment rules change over time, so PR is never guaranteed. Active Study's MARA-registered agents will map a realistic, current pathway based on your engineering discipline and goals.
