Cost and duration of Fitness courses in Australia

Fees & Timeline

Cost, Duration & Intake Dates

Fitness training is typically delivered as a Certificate III in Fitness followed by a Certificate IV in Fitness, the two qualifications recognised as the minimum standard for practising personal trainers. As an indicative guide, total tuition for these VET-level certificates commonly ranges from around AUD 8,000 to AUD 16,000, depending on whether you complete one or both. These figures are indicative only and vary by provider and location.

A Certificate III in Fitness typically takes around six to twelve months, and continuing to a Certificate IV usually brings the combined study to roughly 12 to 18 months, including supervised client sessions and first-aid certification. Both are nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. Most providers offer several intakes a year, commonly in February, April or May, July, and October.

Because fitness courses differ in their facilities and practical components, fees vary between providers. Active Study helps you choose a provider that suits your goals and budget, then confirms the exact current tuition and intake dates before you enrol.

Permanent residency pathway after a Fitness course in Australia

Study to PR

Your PR Pathway After This Course

A fitness qualification is primarily a career and lifestyle pathway, and its migration options depend closely on your individual circumstances. After completing an eligible course, you may be able to apply for a Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) where you meet the requirements, giving you post-study work rights to gain Australian experience and consider your next steps.

The course entry does not point to a specific national occupation list for fitness, so any skilled pathway typically needs to be built carefully around your full profile, which may include further study or combining your fitness qualification with another eligible occupation. Where a pathway is available, it would generally involve state-nominated options such as the subclass 190 or 491 visas, subject to your points, a relevant skills assessment, and current requirements.

Because occupation lists and points thresholds change over time, permanent residency is never guaranteed and should not be assumed from a fitness qualification alone. Active Study's MARA-registered agents will assess the migration options realistically available from your fitness qualification and advise on the best route to extend your stay and work toward PR.
